Now that our kids are in college, my husband and I decided to build our dream home. We went to many web sites but houseplansandmore.com really stood out to us. We could search by style, feature or even by the number of beds and baths that we want. The ranch style homes were the first to catch our eyes. We wanted to build a home that would be efficient, as we grow older, but also have luxurious features. We figured a one-level house would work perfectly for us and not have any stairs we would have to climb to connect to other living areas. At first, we thought that a ranch home had to be simple and boring like they were in the 1940’s. Come to find out that ranch homes are available in so many styles including country, modern, and even European, plus everything in between.
As we did our searching, we realized that most ranch homes have open living areas and high ceilings. These just happened to be features that we were definitely looking for in our dream home. I am a bit claustrophobic in tight spaces, so the spaciousness of a ranch home is perfect for me. It also provides the feeling of a much bigger space when people enter the house. Another popular feature of ranch homes is their sensible outdoor living space. This was great especially for my husband who loves to grill and I love to sit on the deck and watch him grill.
We found a handful of plans that we really liked and added to them to our Favorites list. That was another handy featured of the website: a helpful option with a clickable Add To Favorites and we can keep track of the ones we liked the most. After a few days of considering the different options, we decided on the Fromberg Traditional Home Plan 055D-0748. It seemed to be the perfect home plan for us. The layout has a large grilling porch at the rear and a built-in outdoor fireplace for cold nights. My husband suggested that we could screen in that porch to keep the bugs and other critters out. This ranch plan also has an amazing kitchen with a lot of counterspace and an eating bar. It merged with the breakfast room that enjoys a sunny bay window and an ultra convenient built-in computer desk.
I was probably the most excited about the luxurious master bathroom. Our old house had two small bathrooms, so I was looking forward to plush features such as a step-up whirlpool tub and separate glass shower so I can relax as long as I want to, soaking my cares away. Also, I couldn’t go without a walk-in closet in my dream home.
Although the grilling porch was definitely a huge selling point, my husband was incredibly enthusiastic about the home theater room. He has always wanted a media area where he could install his personal stereo system. I think he is loosing his hearing with how loud he listens to the television. Now he can listen to it as loud as he wants in his own movie room. I am sure the kids will enjoy it as well when they visit home.
We still have three other bedrooms to utilize however we choose. I turned one into a hobby room for my scrapbooking. The other two we kept as bedrooms, so the kids have a comfortable place to sleep when they have summers off from college. I just love the amount of space that we have in this remarkable ranch floor plan. This layout couldn’t be more than perfect for us to enjoy the rest of our lives together.
